11th Annual Pat’s Run 2015
Saturday, April 25, 2015, the annual Pat’s Run is returning to Tempe, AZ for it’s 11th year. This annual 4.2-mile run/walk is to support the Tillman Military Scholars Program, which assists active-duty service members, veterans and military spouses by investing in their higher education. The scholarship includes educational expenses such as tuition and feeds, books and living expenses.
History of Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman was an outstanding football player in the Arizona community. First excelling as a linebacker for ASU in 1994, he was later drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 1998. He was loyal to his Arizona roots, notably turning down a five year, $9 million contract with the St Louis Rams. In 2002, he turned down another contract—a 3-year, $3.6 million with the Cardinals—to enlist in the US Army. In April 2004, Tillman was killed in action. Pat’s Run is an event to not only honor Pat Tillman, as well as fundraise for the Tillman Military Scholars Program, but also to bring the Arizona community together in celebration of Tillman’s life.
The Pat Tillman Foundation invests in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships. Founded in 2004, the foundation has expanded to 347 scholars, $6 million in scholarship support and 98 universities attended.
“After Pat’s death [in 2004], family and friends founded the Pat Tillman Foundation with a $1.25 million pledge to Arizona State University to create the Tillman Scholars-ASU Leadership Through Action program at the W. P. Carey School of Business” (Pat Tillman Foundation).
Pat’s Run 2015 will be hosted in Tempe, AZ at Sun Devil Stadium. The run will begin at 7:05am, and the Kid’s Run will start at 9:45am. It is $45 for adults to register online, with fees increasing to $50 on March 31. Kids registration is $5 online, and walk-up registration $10. Space is limited, so be sure to register early!
